You have spent time, money, and energy setting up a website that perfectly expresses you and your business, products or services. However after you launch your website you may notice that you’re not attracting the visitors, leads, or sales from your website that you were hoping to attract.
If this has happened to you, then it is likely you’ve forgotten the most important part of developing a website – traffic. Here are three easy ways to drive traffic to your website.
Drive Traffic By Optimising Your Site for Search Engines and Targeted Traffic
SEO or Search Engine Optimization is probably the most important setup step to drive traffic to your website that people tend to overlook when developing their site. This may be because they don’t understand SEO or because they don’t realise how important it is.
SEO can be complicated but there are many really good resources available online now to help with novices. Google Webmaster Tools offer wonderful SEO services and some web hosts offer packages that include SEO. If your web platform is WordPress, for example, one of the best free plugins is SEO Yoast for WordPress. There are extras that are offered for a nominal fee and will boost your online presence, but your site will greatly benefit from the free services.
There are actually two types of SEO that you need to be concerned about in order to drive traffic to your website. I cover both types in depth in my Online Marketing Guide which I offer as a gig service on Fiverr.com. I state in the Guide that to drive traffic to your website you need to:
…focus on optimising every square inch of your website so that you are able to generate organic traffic from the major search engines.
But, as important as SEO is, if you don’t have the following, you still will not be able to drive traffic to your website.
Drive Traffic With Unique, Accurate and Quality Content
Supplying web content that captures and holds the attention of your audience is an art form. That content also needs to hold the attention of the search engines that will crawl the pages of your site in order to index and rank your site.
Unless you have been trained or learned over the years how to use words that will grab your audience’s attention and help your ranking, you are wise to enlist the services of professional content writers and editors. Content that is poorly written and presented can break an otherwise beautiful website and great business. It doesn’t matter how much you drive traffic to your website if your content is inferior.
Drive Traffic With Quality Backlinks and Social Media
One way Google measures the relevancy of your website is by looking at how many backlinks your site is receiving and where they are coming from. In this regard, you want to make sure that your backlinks are coming from quality, authority sites in your niche. These are sites that are established and have significant traffic each day.
As far as social media is concerned, one only needs to look at the growth of the social media industry to know how important social sites are when you want to drive traffic to your website. Platforms like WordPress have considered social media so important that they have also added a widget that will automatically place a notice of your new post on the major social sites that you use.
