I launched my virtual assistant business because after welcoming our first born, my husband and I decided that a better work/life balance was required in order to help our son flourish. And so came Virtual Storm, a communications specialist who provides Brisbane proofreading services virtually – so of course our location isn’t important, but it’s sometimes nice to know.

What is a virtual assistant?

A virtual assistant is a professional who provides services usually from their home-based office. They use modern, online tools and technologies to provide their services virtually to their clients. Virtual assistants have specialised backgrounds and are experienced in their fields. They have decided to work smarter, not harder, and hence run their own businesses. Although I am based in Brisbane, because of the nature of the services I provide, I work with clients from across the globe.

Why offer Brisbane proofreading services?

I like working in my own backyard. I know my community and find that clients can relate better if you recognise their business and branding. Of course, being a VA, I don’t need to work in my own city, but sometimes it’s a refreshing change.

How do proofreading services work?

If you’ve read my previous post you would know that proofreading differs from editing. In order to ensure that I provide professional proofreading services, I follow a few rules of my own. I always try to:

  • Read a printed version of the document first
  • Look for one writing issue at a time, i.e. focus on spelling, followed by grammar, followed by punctuation
  • Read aloud when in doubt as to the clarity of the sentence in terms of grammar

I work to ensure that my client’s work is free from spelling, grammar and punctuation errors and is consistent throughout. If you’re wondering why you should use a proofreading service, I found this nice example that shows how commonly confused words can be missed if you do not proofread.
